Cast: Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Michael Angarano and Crystal Liu Yifei
Synopsis: “In Forbidden Kingdom, American teenager Jason (Michael Angarano), who is obsessed with Hong Kong cinema and kungfu classics, finds an antique Chinese staff in a pawn shop: the legendary stick weapon of the Chinese sage and warrior, the Monkey King (Jet Li). With the lost relic in hand, Jason unexpectedly finds himself transported back to ancient China.
There, he meets the drunken kungfu master, Lu Yan (Jackie Chan); an enigmatic and skillful Silent Monk (Jet Li); and a vengeance-bent kungfu beauty, Golden Sparrow (Crystal Liu Yi Fei), who lead him on his quest to return the staff to its rightful owner, the Monkey King – imprisoned in stone by the evil Jade Warlord (Collin Chou) for five hundred years. Along the way, while attempting to outmaneuver scores of Jade Warriors, Cult Killers and the deadly White Hair Demoness, Ni Chang (Li Bing Bing), Jason learns about honor, loyalty and friendship, and the true meaning of kungfu, and thus frees himself.” (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0865556/synopsis)
Screenplay: There’s some disconnect on the flow this world to the other world. I just think it could have been done smoother… but that’s just me.
Cinematography: Well, it’s a Hollywood-backed martial-arts movie so what can you expect? Awesome scenes, for sure.
Story: Anyone familiar with the Chinese novel, “Journey to the West”, will greatly appreciate the references made throughout the movie. It’s a long movie – approximately 105 minutes (1 hour and 45 minutes) – but, uh, it lacked substantive character developments. Oh well, what can you expect? It’s just suppose to entertain fans of this genre as well as those of Jackie Chan and Jet Li.
Pros: Enough basing… Go watch it. I still believe it’s worth to see… and enjoy. Have fun laughing!
Oh and need I mention the fight scenes? I think I already told ya they got awesome scenes! Hehe…
